It was a beautiful Labor Day weekend that wasn’t wasted on the Teton High School cross country team. Under the bright September sun, both the girls and boys teams are taking shape heading into the Tiger- Griz this weekend in Idaho Falls.
Junior pack leader Jack Dobbs set the pace at the Cardinal Classic in Soda Springs last Friday as we was chased closely by the rest of the varsity team including Lance Safiran, Saul Ortiz and Carl Ripplinger.
“The men’s team was well packed up,” said High Coach Neil Gleichman. “Lance had a huge day and improved dramatically from previous week scoring a big course PR by almost a minute.”
Team captain Saul Ortiz also took a minute off his course PR (personal record) and Finn Adams rounded out the field with a 32 second course PR and fifth man in on varsity.
Adams was followed by senior Justin Letham and freshman Noah Machen who earned a spot on the varsity team this Friday.
On the girl’s team, freshman stand out Sara Bailey lead the team logging the fastest course record for Teton since 2013 with a time of 22.47.Senior Taryn Paradis leads a strong middle pack including senior Ellie Nykamp and Olivia Schnell who both took over a minute off their course time. And Amelia Wilson and Eliza Wilson both earned a course PR that day too.
The Teton team heads to Freedom Park on Friday for the Tiger-Griz Invitational. Gleichman noted that the team is working through some early season injuries and he’s hopeful to get everyone to the starting line this Friday.
