When did you start your farm/studio/business?

I was one of the original vendors of the first farmer’s market in Driggs and I can’t remember the year. Goes back a long time. But before that, I sold to neighbors and friends out of the back of my car.

What motivated you to do so?

I have always loved to garden and got started as a teenager when I was in charge of the family farm. It’s just in my blood, I guess. Gardening is my life.

What keeps you motivated?

Being able to produce high quality food and the fact, that at my age, I can still do the work. When people say, “You didn’t grow that here”, (Yes I do), or “Your produce is so clean”, (thank you), I feel like all the hard work is worth it.

What, so far, do you feel you do best (as it pertains to your farm/studio/business)?

I am a one man show and do it all. I am proud of what I have accomplished. But if it weren’t for some awesome friends and a couple family members, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Sixteen friends got together one Saturday in 2010 and we built a greenhouse in a day. The next year, my brother came from Ohio and helped me build a deer fence all around my house and gardens. In 2013, my nephew and his wife came out from Ohio and in nine days, we put up a 30x36 hoop house. No small feat. All this allows me to garden in an area where the elements are tough. But, as far as the business goes, it is me.

What can folks look forward to at your booth this week and the coming weeks?

Early season veggies like spinach, radishes, green onions, rhubarb, asparagus and herbs. Each week, the produce that is available changes as the season progresses. I grow everything that will grow here. Peas, beans, squash, potatoes, tomatoes to name a few.

Each week I offer a baked good made with goodies from the garden, such as Rhubarb Nut Muffins, Zucchini Pecan Choc Chip Muffins, Carrot Cookies, and Apple Bars to name a few. It is a healthy way to use excess produce.
