Missionary from Victor dies in Mexico
A Victor, Idaho man serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints died Wednesday in Mexico after sustaining injuries when he came in contact with a live electrical wire. Elder Colt Daniel Kunz, 20, was serving a mission in Tampico, Mexico.
“In his short service he had been described as the kind of missionary every mission president wants to receive,” said Church spokesman Eric Hawkins. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Elder Kunz’s family, friends and others who mourn his passing.”
As tragic, rare and unexpected as Kunz’s death is, Wayne Maness, a member of the Victor Stake Center, said from a perspective of faith, missionaries are protected.
“He’s in the hands of the Lord,” said Maness.
Kunz had arrived in Mexico less than one month ago. Kunz is a member of the Victor 1st ward. He is the son of Ryan and Ranae Kunz. Ryan is a stake president for the LDS Church.
Kunz was a 2012 graduate of Teton High School and an accomplished athlete, participating in cross country, basketball, baseball and track and field. He was part of the 2011 state championship cross country team.
